General Dermatology FAQs
Do I need a referral to see a dermatologist at Mountain View Dermatology and Aesthetics?
Many patients can schedule directly with our office without a referral. However, some insurance plans, particularly HMO plans, require a referral from your primary care provider before a specialist visit is covered. We recommend checking with your insurance carrier or calling our office at (520) 881-8161 so we can help you confirm what your plan requires.
What are your office hours?
Our Tucson office is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM and Friday from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Early morning appointments make it easier to fit a skin check or treatment in before work.
Where is your office located?
Mountain View Dermatology and Aesthetics is located at 2375 N Wyatt Dr, Suite 107-109, in Tucson, AZ 85712. We welcome patients from across Tucson and nearby communities including Oro Valley, Marana, the Catalina Foothills, Vail, and Sahuarita.
Who will I see during my appointment?
Our practice is led by Dr. Marc I. Epstein, a board-certified dermatologist and retired Air Force colonel who founded the practice in 1996. You may also be cared for by other members of our experienced clinical team. Learn more about Dr. Epstein and our team.
What should I bring to my first visit?
Please bring a photo ID, your insurance card, a list of current medications and supplements, and any relevant records from previous skin treatments or biopsies. Completing your new patient paperwork ahead of time helps your visit run smoothly. Visit our New Patients page for details.
Do you accept insurance?
Medical dermatology visits, such as evaluations for suspicious moles, skin cancer, acne, rosacea, eczema, or psoriasis, are often covered by insurance depending on your plan. Cosmetic treatments are generally not covered. Please call our office at (520) 881-8161 to verify your coverage before your appointment.
Do you offer financing for cosmetic treatments?
Yes. We offer flexible payment options through Cherry, CareCredit, and Affirm, subject to credit approval. These programs allow you to spread the cost of treatments over time. See our Financing page to learn more.
How often should I have a skin cancer screening?
Most adults benefit from a full-body skin exam once a year. Patients with a personal or family history of skin cancer, many moles, fair skin, or significant sun exposure may need more frequent checks. Living in the intense Arizona sun makes regular screenings especially important. Learn more about skin cancer care.
What are the warning signs of skin cancer?
Watch for a new growth, a sore that does not heal, a rough scaly patch, or a mole that changes in size, shape, or color. Dermatologists use the ABCDE guide (Asymmetry, Border, Color, Diameter, Evolving) to evaluate moles. If you notice any of these changes, schedule an evaluation promptly. Rough patches may also be actinic keratosis, a common precancer.
What skin conditions do you treat?
We diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions, including acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, melasma, hyperhidrosis, moles, warts, and molluscum, seborrheic keratosis, actinic keratosis, and skin cancer. View our full Conditions page.
What cosmetic treatments do you offer?
Our aesthetic services include wrinkle relaxers and dermal fillers, BBL Hero photofacials, Contour TRL laser peels, Opus Plasma resurfacing, RF microneedling, HydraFacial MD, laser hair removal, body contouring, EmSculpt Neo, and more. See all aesthetic services.
Is there downtime after cosmetic procedures?
Downtime depends on the treatment. Injectables, HydraFacial MD, and LED Lightwave Therapy typically involve little to no downtime, while deeper resurfacing treatments may require several days of healing. Your provider will review expected recovery and aftercare during your consultation.
Can you help with excessive sweating?
Yes. We offer several solutions for hyperhidrosis, including prescription options, wrinkle-relaxer injections, and miraDry, an FDA-cleared treatment that permanently reduces underarm sweat and odor glands.
Do you offer treatments for hair loss?
We offer nonsurgical hair restoration using TED by Alma paired with the TED+ Hair Care Formula, a needle-free approach that helps stimulate thinning hair in men and women.
Can acne scars be improved?
Yes. Depending on the type and depth of scarring, we may recommend acne scar treatments such as RF microneedling, laser resurfacing, Opus Plasma, or dermal fillers. Many patients see the best results with a combination approach.
Do you sell medical-grade skincare products?
Yes. We carry professional skincare lines including SkinMedica, AVÈNE, Revision Skincare, ISDIN, and more. Our team can recommend products to protect your skin and maintain your treatment results. Visit our Skin Care Products page.
