Sculptra Dermal Filler FAQs
What is Sculptra?
Sculptra dermal filler is based on poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). PLLA is a natural substance that’s been used for many decades in surgical products like dissolvable stitches.
It stimulates the formation of new collagen in the body, which builds firmer skin.
Since 1999 Sculptra dermal filler has been used in Europe as an anti-wrinkle treatment for the face, and in 2004 it was approved in the U.S.
What's it used for?
The FDA approved Sculptra for correcting smile lines as well as other facial wrinkles, as well as for overall volume filling for those who suffer from facial wasting.
How does it work?
Sculptra dermal filler corrects the facial volume loss that is a direct result of aging. It subtly corrects wrinkles and lines, and the improvements last up to two years or more.
It helps reinforce your collagen structure and gradually restores the look of firmness and fullness to your face by erasing or improving wrinkles and building underlying collagen.
Why is collagen so important to my skin?
The loss of collagen in skin is a consequence of aging. It leads to reduced volume in your face, which creates wrinkles and sags that can make you appear old, tired or angry.
Fortunately, Sculptra provides support structure in your skin upon which new collagen can form. New collagen helps keep your skin smooth, tight, and young-looking.
How is Sculptra different from other dermal fillers?
Traditional dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid. They’re used to plump up wrinkles. In contrast, Sculptra directly targets the deep dermal layer, where it helps reinforce and build collagen.
The improvements in lines and wrinkles are subtle after a Sculptra treatment, and the appearance is natural.
How long do treatments take, and how long do the improvements last?
Treatments generally take 15 to 45 minutes. And, improvements may last as long as two years or more. Most patients choose to have a series of follow up treatments to extend and increase the benefits.
Best of all, there’s little or no downtime.
