Restylane dermal filler and the related Perlane dermal filler are both based on hyaluronic acid (HA). Restylane dermal filler helps treat wrinkles, smile lines and frown lines by adding volume to selected areas of your face.
HA found naturally in the body provides fullness and volume in skin. Women tend to lose HA faster than men, so they often need more help with volume.
Restylane and Perlane both provide volume-enhancement effects which last longer than those from naturally-occurring hyaluronic acid. The HA formulation used in Restylane is hydrophilic, which means that it draws and holds water.
This helps treated areas remain hydrated and plump for long periods of time, as much as a year or more.
Regain facial volume
Over time, aging and the effects of sun and weather cause your face to lose some volume. Dermal fillers such as Restylane can help you recover this volume in your face.
The treatment adds volume, which immediately diminishes or eliminates wrinkles, lines and folds.
You’ll look more youthful and well-rested after your wrinkles are reduced or removed.
New collagen
Beyond immediate correction of wrinkles and lines, Restylane dermal filler also works to help your skin build new collagen.
That’s because the hyaluronic acid in the medication is a building block for new collagen, which gives your skin more volume, firmness and flexibility.
Over time, the HA is eliminated from the body naturally. Many of our patients choose to have one or more follow up treatments to maximize improvements and continue building new collagen.
Long-lasting improvements
Treatments usually take between twenty minutes to an hour. The improvements from a single Restylane treatment typically last at least 6 months, and often a year or longer.
Even better, studies also show that with a second, follow up treatment positive results may last as long as 18 months.
