What Causes Snoring?

The air not being able to move freely through your nose and mouth during sleep causes snoring. Many times, this is due to laxity of the tissue in the back of mouth and throat. This causes a narrowing of the airway causing the tissues to vibrate and make an audible sound. In some cases, the airway can be completely blocked this is know as obstructive sleep apnea. There are many factors that can lead to snoring such as age, nasal and sinus problems, being over weight, alcohol, smoking, medications and sleep posture as well as laxity of the tissue.
